Задача музея — напоминать американцам о дне, когда ярость пробудившейся демократии обрушилась на нацистов, оккупировавших Европу, и сохранить для будущих поколений доказательства того, что наша Республика способна совершить невозможное, если все как один поднимаются на борьбу в едином порыве. Собраны фотографии, образцы оружия, обмундирования и другие свидетельства сражения в Нормандии. В архивах музея будут храниться все печатные материалы о дне «Д», а также устные и письменные воспоминания участников боев, которые Центр Эйзенхауэра при Университете Нового Орлеана собирает с 1983 г. Это самая большая коллекция мемуаров о каком-либо отдельном сражении в мире.
