В тех случаях, когда человек не может достигнуть
такого состояния готовности к восприятию, которое отве-
чало бы вероятностям событий окружающего мира, он
может поступать двояко: либо заново выработать кате-
гории и соответствующие им ожидания, либо непрерывно
пристально наблюдать за объектами и событиями. Во вто-
ром случае организму приходится идти на потерю массы
времени, необходимого для быстрого и гибкого приспособ-
ления к событиям в условиях спешки, риска н ограничен-
ной работоспособности. Готовность к восприятию в нашем
смысле - не роскошь, а необходимое условие для обес-
печения гибкого приспособления к условиям жизни. Про-
цессы, происходящие при отнесении сенсорных сигналов
к соответствующим категориям, включают учет признаков
н варьируют от сенсорно-открытого поиска признаков при
относительной неопределенности до избирательного по-
иска подтверждающих признаков при частичной опреде-
ленности и изменения чувствительности к сигналу в тех
случаях, когда он недостаточно четко относится к опре-
деленной категории.
Четыре ряда механизмов предложено для объяснения
известных феноменов восприятия, в том числе и различ-
ной готовности к восприятию: группировка и интегра-
ция; упорядочение доступа; использование сигналов сов-
падения - несовпадения; регуляция чувствительности.
Мы изложили психологические данные, заставляющие
предположить наличие этих механизмов, и рассмотрели
их возможные нейрофизиологические аналоги. Вероятно,
все эти факторы участвуют в процессе отнесения сигналов
к определенной категории и установления связей между
ними и объясняют существование разных порогов для
различных событий, направленный поиск признаков и,
наконец, явления сенсорного торможения и фильтрации
сигналов.
В заключение мы рассмотрели некоторые из причин
неадекватной установки к восприятию: во-первых, не-

умение усвоить подходящие категории для классификации
событий окружения и установления их последовательно-
сти; во-вторых, искажения, в результате которых более
доступные категории с широкими пределами маскируют
категории менее доступные, мешая использованию их для
кодирования доходящих до субъекта раздражителей.
В свете этих представлений может быть пересмотрен ряд
понятий, связанных с динамикой восприятия, и в част-
ности понятие перцептивной защиты.
